  • Cork: 100% natural

    Although artificial infills are considered environmentally-friendly, cork is a more sustainable option. Cork is a 100% recyclable material, where nearly all industry waste produced is reusable. This helps to minimize greenhouse gases and reduce the carbon footprint.

    Choosing a cork infill means choosing a solution that’s environmentally-friendly throughout the system’s entire useful life.

    In trees, cork helps to retain CO2 and, if removed at a certain time, the tree’s retention capacity even increases. During the production process, even the smallest cork residues are used in combined power plants. Lastly, at the end of the system’s life, cork infills release less CO2 than the other solutions available on the market.

Respect for people

The studies undertaken[1] thus far indicate that the use of turf with artificial infills, specifically SBR rubber, entails no health hazards. However, players and the community are often concerned about the risk of oral intake, inhalation or skin contact with potentially hazardous elements contained in rubber particles.

For cork used in Amorim Cork Composites infills, this issue is not a concern, as all materials used are 100% free of chemical contamination, pursuant to REACH, and contain no traces of PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) or phthalates.

[1]The presence of other potentially toxic substances was also tested in the German laboratory Chemisches Laboratorium Dr. Stegemann, in order to check compliance with the DIN-defined limits.

The choice of cork as an infill for artificial turf also guarantees safety for sporting activities and enhances performance and comfort for players thanks to the neutral odour and more natural appearance and texture than other infills, which also allows the playing surface temperature to be reduced by up to 30% compared to other solutions.
