Norwegian designer Lars Beller Fjetland designed the Porto and Lisbon cork tiles included in the Beller Collection from Spinneybeck, which chose Amorim Cork Composites to produce these decorative modules that guarantee thermal and acoustic insulation performance. The collection won the #MetropolisLikes prize in NeoCon 2016 - North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors.
Introducing a new material category to create Beller Collection was Spinneybeck’s goal to design a different and innovative line of products. The materials for all the collections are critically selected to attend demanding clients. In this context, cork came up as an excellent material with the great benefit of versatility and sustainability.

To answer Spinneybeck's criteria and demands of its new collection, Amorim Cork Composites developed materials, processes and tools to produce the cork tiles designed by Lars Beller Fjetland. Inspired by techniques used in traditional shoe sole molding, Lisboa and Porto tiles are acoustically absorptive composite cork wall tiles composed of 1’-4” square modules that install easily with a unique pressure fit rail system. The design of the Lisboa tiles references Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeier’s ceramic tiles where five standard tile designs can be combined and rotated to create endless, unique patterns. Three standard profiles of the Porto tiles are inspired by familiar textures found in factory building surfaces—rounded silos, corrugated metal siding and saw-tooth rooftops. The heat-molded composite cork tiles provide graphic patterning across wall surfaces while simultaneously assisting with acoustic absorption. Porto and Lisboa cork tiles are together the Beller Colletion presented at Knoll Showroom at the biggest North American interior design tradeshow - NeoCon.
