Green shipbuilding reaches cruise speed with the help of ACM52, an innovative and sustainable cork-based interior primary decking solution which ensures that ships comply with safety standards while significantly reducing their carbon footprint.
-
Cork technology is in a strong position to make an important contribution to a cleaner, greener cruise ship industry, with greater IMO compliance. ACM52 is a new multifunctional product for interior deck covering with IMO certification that combines outstanding technical and functional performance with impeccable sustainability credentials.
A cork composite material specially designed to be used as an interior primary deck covering, of 5 to 50mm thickness on metallic substrates. -
Designed in compliance with stringent fire, smoke and toxicity standards, ACM52 has exceptionally low thermal conductivity, thereby offering damping performance with acoustic benefits. Extremely lightweight – it is 2 to 5 times lighter than conventional decking – it provides comfort and performance while reducing the carbon footprint, thanks to cork’s natural characteristics and its important contribution to energy savings.
Because its main constituent is cork, a 100% natural, reusable and recyclable material, ACM52 stands out as a particularly valuable solution for sustainable deck construction, in compliance with the industry’s safety standards.
Key Features
-
IMO/MED Certified
Tested to IMO resolution MSC.307 (88) - FTP Code 2010 against fire protection requirements, ACM52 is certified in accordance with the MARINE EQUIPMENT DIRECTIVE 2014/90/EU (MED) and EU-US MRA (MED category A. 1/3.1 & USCG category 164.106, including MCA & Transport of Canada), bearing the MED Wheelmark of conformity.
-
Acoustic Insulation
Cork's air filled closed cell structure enables inherent damping of structural noise transmission, such as step noise and impacts throughout the decking surface and consequently increased acoustic performance.
-
Thermal Insulation
ACM52 structure has a low thermal conductivity of 0,065 W/mºK across a wide temperature range, resulting in energy savings and reduced condensation. This attribute enhances passenger comfort like no other primary decking material.
-
Lightweight
Due to the material’s composition, besides its leveling and fairing function, it fosters a significant weight reduction, since it is 2 to 5 times lighter than conventional primary decking solutions in the market. This has a direct impact on the vessel’s final weight and stability, improving vessel performance and rating.
-
Green Construction
The main constituent of ACM52 is cork, which is 100% natural, reusable and recyclable. A sustainable product that guarantees protection against risks to human health and the environment, in compliance with current REACH regulations, contributing to energy savings.
-
Versatile
ACM52 is produced in a sheet format that can be trimmed, sanded and machined with regular tools or equipment to obtain the desired finish or contour of the primary decking.
