Suitable for exterior solutions
Green shipbuilding reaches cruise speed with the help of Amorim Cork Composites’ primary decking materials. Innovative and sustainable cork-based interior primary deck solutions which ensure that ships comply with safety standards while significantly reducing their carbon footprint.
The key factor in ensuring a negative carbon footprint is the cork oak forest itself - which is a carbon sink, responsible for retaining 73 tons of CO2 per ton of cork used for a typical application, which corresponds to 2,7 kilotons of CO2 retention.
Exterior Primary Decking
ACM30 is a cork composite, a material specially formulated to be used as an exterior primary deck covering for levelling and fairing with additional features with IMO/MED certification.
Due to the materials composition it significantly benefits weight reduction, being 2 to 5 times lighter than available primary decking solutions therefore improving vessel performance and rating, and consequently delivering energy savings. It also serves as a structural damping, soundproofing and thermal insulation barrier of the deck.

Cork technology is making an important contribution to a cleaner, greener shipping industry, with IMO compliance. Because our range’s main constituent is cork - a 100% natural, reusable and recyclable material - it stands out as a particularly valuable solution for sustainable deck construction, complying with the industry’s safety standards.
Amorim Cork Composites primary decking solutions have the IMO/MED Wheelmark certification that guarantees our ongoing commitment to product quality and safety of customers for sea-going yachts, offshore and passenger vessels, including cruise ships.
Key Features
-
IMO/MED Certified
Certified to IMO Res. MSC.307 (88) – (2010 FTP Code) Annex 1, Part 5 & Part 2* MSC / Circ.1120, compliant with the Council Directive 2014/90 EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of the 23 July 2014 on marine equipment directive and repealing Council Directive 96/98/EC and EU-US Mutual Recognition Agreement 2004/425/EC. *applies to ACM52
-
Acoustic insulation
Cork's air-filled closed cell structure allows for inherent damping of structural noise transmission, such as step noise and impacts throughout the decking surface and consequently increased acoustic performance.
-
Thermal insulation
ACM30 and ACM52 structure have a low thermal conductivity of 0,065 W/mºK throughout a wide temperature range, resulting in energy savings and reduced condensation. This attribute contributes to passenger comfort like no other primary decking material.
-
Lightweight
Due to the materials composition, besides its levelling and fairing function it significantly benefits weight reduction, being 2 to 5 times lighter than conventional primary decking solutions having a direct impact on final vessel weight, stability and therefore improved vessel performance and rating.
-
Green construction
The main constituent of ACM30 and ACM52 is cork which is 100% natural, reusable and recyclable, it is a sustainable product that guarantees protection against risks to human health and the environment, complying to current REACH regulation, contributing to energy savings.
-
Versatile
Our solutions are suitable to be bonded using existing industry adhesives and technologies to all metallic deck substrates.
Both are produced in sheet format that can be trimmed, sanded and machined with regular tools or equipment to obtain the desired finish or contour of the primary decking, beforehand or after installation therefore decreasing assembly time.
