Nature as the starting point for a sustainable future

Respect for nature is the essence of our existence. By promoting cyclical extraction of cork, without damaging the cork oak trees, Corticeira Amorim's activity ensures the viability of the cork oak forest, which is a natural and renewable resource, that offers numerous environmental, economic and social benefits. Studies indicate that for each ton of cork produced, the cork oak forest can sequester up to 73 tons of CO2, and thus helps to reduce the Global Warming Potential.

But Nature is just the starting point. Our mission involves trying to go further and applying the best sustainability principles.

A waste free future

To protect the future we need to rethink the way that we see waste. At Amorim Cork Composites, we aim to develop a circular future, transforming what was previously considered to be waste into new creative opportunities. We combine cork with surplus products from other industries and this helps us to develop solutions to respond to the world’s most demanding industries. We can thereby enhance the natural characteristics of a raw material that is sustainable by nature. We aim to close the production cycle without any waste. Waste offers countless opportunities.

Life Cycle Assessment: Measuring Environmental Impact

Life Cycle Assessment: Measuring Environmental Impact

Life cycle assessment studies were conducted for various of Amorim Cork Composites’ products and concluded that they all have a negative carbon balance, when considering the carbon sequestration of the cork oak forest and the emissions associated with the industrial process.

Negative Carbon Balance

The Negative Carbon Balance seal certifies that, when taking into account the carbon sequestration of the cork oak forest, Amorim Cork Composites’ products sequester more CO₂ than is emitted during the production process.

These results are based on Life Cycle Assessments conducted by independent entities, outside Amorim Cork Composites’ business universe.

Sustainable by nature
